BIOGRAPHY

Nima Shiningstar-EL was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At an early age she knew that something was different and special about the way she looked at the world around her. Her point of view was extremely creative and magical, but it was firmly rooted in the turbulent times that she was born into. Nima had a unique way of talking, walking, and expressing her thoughts, feelings, and ideas to her family and friends. In the beginning most of the people around her thought she was just going through a typical adolescent phase, but they would all soon realize that Nima, was traveling on a completely different path.
As Nima continued to grow and expand, so did her creativity. She began to realize that she had an interest and talent for writing poetry/short stories, and plays, painting, photography, and broadcasting. All through her young life she created and amassed a large amount of original and imaginative work, so in 2014 she decided to take the next step and start officially publishing her art. Her first public release was the insightful and poignant book of poetry, “Poems, Quotes, & Thoughts Provoked”. This book firmly established Nima as a new and fresh voice carving her own lane in the poetry community in Philly.
From 2014 to now, Nima has written 14 books of poetry and short stories. She has created over 150 abstract paintings which she calls Nabstract. She co-host The BigWoo Radio Show twice a week. She does her own Facebook Live Show, “Thoughts Provoked” every Sunday, and has an interview series called, In The Art Room with Nima”. In 2017, Nima along with her Manager Born Free created the annual holiday, Love Thy Brotha Day. Every year on June 8th, she convenes a forum of black men to come together to celebrate each other and help motivate our youth towards positive attitudes and lifestyles. If that wasn’t enough, Nima released another powerful and timely book called “Peace King Can You Hear Me?”. She wanted to speak directly to the black men in her family and community and let them know just how much she loves, appreciates, and supports them.
As you can see, Nima is not only abundantly creative, she’s extremely active. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of her bestselling and most impactful works of poetry entitled, “A Withered Rose Still Blooms”. This heartbreakingly beautiful book sheds a much needed light on the scourge of domestic violence. It also lifts up the women and men who have been abused and died at the hands of this man-made cancer eating away at the foundation of our homes and hearts.
In 2019 Nima established her own media company, NimaGirlProductions to consolidate all of her works of art and other ventures under her own brand.
Nima is currently working on her first children’s book and photo table book. She is so prolific that I never know what’s she’s going to do and create. All I know is that Nima Shiningstar-EL is an exceptional and once in a lifetime talent. We are all blessed to be alive during her ordained creative run.

#WedNightPoetry: "The Dream" by Why Yet

"The Dream" by Why Yet

Image result for Dreams

You made hours feel like seconds,
my heart sped up at the sight of you -
a complete calm centered me in your presence
although I was scared of what my heart whispered to me.
It felt good.
Too good to be true,
my experience warned me
but my heart lulled me in to believe the possibility...
And then reality snatched me awake from my dream.

Moving On

Image result for black people u-haul

I went round and round in circles,
my mind battling my heart
when the truth of it was in front of me
right from the start.
Energy doesn't lie,
well neither do actions
and the lack thereof allowed me to see
the truth and its impaction on my emotions.
Emotions I held close with a side of hope
and a glimmer of reason
to season the dysfunction of my dreaming
of a reality even Dr. Strange couldn't conjure...
So in light of the shade of fear sliding from my eyes
I am rinsing clean my hands
and moving on with my life...

#WedNightPoetry: "Tongue Piercing" by Darrell Herbert

"Tongue Piercing"

Flawed human beings
You are now who I am
burn bright
She burned brighter and was a true genius -therefore perhaps her brighter flame went out first
She was always volatile and vulnerable and sad
and there was no way he was the right type of man to heal her
so sad -for them both -a car crash looking for somewhere to happen
It should all be laid to rest with them

She's dead.
The silence demands the obvious conclusion

Neither party is here to confirm, deny, defend, reflect or shed light on the situation

The relationship between therapist and client must be private and protected
in death as it is in life
Otherwise how can people allow themselves to be entirely open
honest and vulnerable in therapy when they know the details could be disclosed after their death?

Surely that would render therapy far less

Blacktopian Shantelle "Elle" McLin releases a book of poetry titled Beyond Nursery Rhymes: Real Life Tales.  Blacktopia is proud to feature her new book release!

Synopsis
Between the covers of this book, you will find a pilgrimage. For the author, ‘Elle’ McLin, in describing her past as a painful one, would be trite and dismissive. It is through enormous turmoil that she found herself; slowly healing, then breaking free of victimhood. She later awakens to new found hope. A victim of sexual abuse; the reality of her writing conveys to the reader, that the true assault was the violation of her soul. The aftermath was a skewed self-perception, which created a pattern of self-deprecation and bitter angst. This is a glimpse into the heart of a woman who became terrified of love, yet desired to be loved; a dichotomy. So skillfully written, Elle has masterfully conveyed her deepest, blood-raw emotions in this exquisite collection of prose. It will be an emotional journey you take with her, feeling each inference, innuendo, and breath. It is a tale of inner strength, fortification and a woman reinvented. The author has discovered self-love; the key was never outside of herself. A victory for this very brave, strong woman. Walk this pilgrimage with ‘Elle'. You will find seeds enough to plant within yourself! Powerful and evocative - not to be missed. Brenda-Lee Ranta – Author of Myriad of Perceptions & Allegories

#WedNightPoerty: Century Teenagers (by Darrell Herbert the Artivist)

Century Teenagers (by Darrell Herbert)

In terms of literary interpretation, we should beware of too many sweeping autobiographical assumptions
The bible says it was Noah, so this is Noah
She haunts me with both beauty and tragedy, what a wonder of a woman
I'm sometimes as equally as cheerful
Was sensitive and wise than became suicidal
Your picture hangs in my halls, you are still an inspiration to many
I think shooting yourself is ignoring everything sacred, important, or valuable
It takes guts to stay positive, being negative is the easiest thing in the world
So much hate on century teenagers
Like good writing still exists
Do you honestly believe all teenage girls are air-headed idiots?
So ashamed that fans are so misogynistic and dismissive of young women
A tortured soul, far beyond his years, scratching from the inside out to find his place, his voice in this world
He was poised and utterly insane in all the same right
To compare him to anything or anyone is simply ridiculous- he was the definition of unique
Was a unique talent, but also a normal young person with problems and insecurities common to today's teenage girls?
Also, I think there are many young writers whose talents far exceed hashtags and one hundred and forty characters
Let's not label all teens as lazy and illiterate
I don't think it has much to do with what others think or say
I think it has to do with how loud it is in our own head
If it Is an insult, I find it quite ironic, coming from the generations who raised teenager girls and got paid from their insecurities
How about a millennial to see great literature as a reflection of his generation
It is pain from the beginning
If you feel isolated and rejected for some reason or another, be it a realistic understanding of other people's views on you, or because of something distorted inside your head
If you feel that what people think of you makes you want to die, and find yourself unable to change yourself, or the situation, it is the only defense left to keep you somehow alive without falling apart
To think that you just don't care
The day you become too cruelly faced with the fact that you do care, but nobody cares, that your basic social and emotional needs just remain terrifically unfulfilled and you can find no way to save yourself or contact with others

It is often as a result of some kind of trauma that people develop mental disorders
It is very common that people retreat from social life after being seriously violated, abused or neglected
They probably were not born thinking they just don't care
Something happened to them, or in some cases, it is more like that nothing good happened and nobody was there for them when something should have been done
Tells clearly about a traumatized and dissociating child
Seems to me not only have suffered of just mental illness, there has been something in life that drove so out of balance
Sometimes it's not that you choose not to care and want to break that necessary trait, but some experiences are just too much for your nervous system to handle, and when it becomes too overwhelming and devastating for your mind, it kind of autonomously shuts off in order to protect you from getting hurt again
After that, you may feel just empty, unable to care of have feelings like normal people
It is actually quite different, it is about conflict, isolation, and an intelligent girl, which experiences some bewildering feelings and makes her fall in her abyss

#WedNightPoetry: "Charger" by Darrell Herbert the Artivist

"Charger" by Darrell Herbert the Artivist

Girl, let me pick you up in the whip
Like a girl who does it all, and I know she does some tricks, that's her gift
Sending that late night text, that's that call that I miss
Rolling down memory lane as we reminisce

Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Going hard, but she want me to go harder
Let me lay you down before the party
Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Like a smart girl, but this girl is much smarter
Let me lay you down before the party

Girl, let me pick you up by your house
Like a girl who goes out, all you got to do is give me a shout, if you know what that's about
Like a girl who makes me laugh, so you better not pout
Pop it for me on the couch, her services require tout

Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Going hard, but she want me to go harder
Let me lay you down before the party
Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Like a smart girl, but this girl is much smarter
Let me lay you down before the party

Girl, let me pick you up without your friends
Did you get the text that I sent?
If you read it, are you reading it again?
Before it's all said and done, things were done if it was meant

Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Going hard, but she want me to go harder
Let me lay you down before the party
Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Like a smart girl, but this girl is much smarter
Let me lay you down before the party
Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Going hard, but she want me to go harder
Let me lay you down before the party
Girl, give me my charger
Let me shut it down before the party
Like a smart girl, but this girl is much smarter
Let me lay you down before the party

#WedNightPoetry: Version Weird Random (by Darrell Herbert)

#WedNightPoetry

NEW POEM BY DARRELL HERBERT

Version Weird Random

What's the meaning of being in love if you don't love anything?
What's the meaning of giving a fuck if you don't fuck with anything?
What's the meaning of being a crab if you'll just drag down everything?
What's the meaning of being in love if you are just a crab?

And the papers will paint my crocodile tears in today's front page of yesterday
I'm just an introvert in need of friends, in addition to that I don't want to be famous or want the fame
I'm just an introvert who could never vent because I had no trust in those who raped
I'm just an introvert who's truly scared
What are trends, what are trends?
What are friends?

Stabbed me until I bleed it out, forced the cigarette into where she reads
Put the boiling spoon on my sincerity, and shoved the cock into where she pees
For anyone who feels like crap, for anyone who feels self-hate
For anyone who feels like no one actually gave a crap, for anyone who has been the victim of self-harm or rape

Wait, why are you talking about self-harm and rape?
Uplift your generation through grace, better watch what you say
Fuck you, because this kind of shit is happening every second of every single day

#WedNightPoetry: "I'm Ready" by The Quiet Poet (Tina Wright)

I'm Ready
Sitting and sipping groving on the music thinking and wishing that I could close my eyes and transport myself into a position that's would place me directly beneath you right now.
It's would be an place of extreme pleasure as our bodies joined together in and dance of sensual bliss. You would enter into my ever so moist garden with ease as my body arched to embrace your welcome.
What a powerful union we are having..... I hear nothing but heavy breathing, moans of love making, the sounds of you slapping me on my ass as you continue to go deeper and deeper and I continue to go higher and higher until I reach the point of no return and my body feels like it's on fire yet I don't want you to stop. I promise you what has just left my body is nothing short of a Dammmm Sea of Sensual Bliss and dammit I want my juices back. Only because I don't want this to end.
Ending is not an option with you because have just flipped me over for round two...Dammmmm this is just a thought.... I have got to get up and find my way to you because I'm so ready have some lip bitting, back scratching, legs too weak to walk good loving , cause if I get to you we ain't stopping tonight.

#WedNightPoetry: "Soulful News" by Ashley Cae Lee aka KKVeli

"Soulful News"
By AshleyCae Lee aka KKVeli
Breaking news a soul has gone missing. Last seen in caramel skin blend wavey jet black hair grey teary eyes. Scar upon eyelid. She was contemplating suicide traded her pen in for a knife notepad for a noose not to be wrapped to loose whats the use she said craved into her thigh not seeing a purpose of living. An empathy empty society has cause this soul to leave her vessel vulnerable to the elements of this here world. Break breaking news we need to find this soul she's the missing link to so many just doesn't know or understand completely. If you see her notify God Allah or any spiritual being with white light to guide this soul though her darkest times. We ask that you not frighten this woman as she already has been through enough. A new report states this soul may have been kidnapped by an unworthy beast attempting to sell her to an enemy. It is urgent she is located hopefully safe and sound no one about so that a soul doesn't have to be reaped prematurely. Approach with caution only a certain man can handle this lost soul and damage vessel don't waste time or energy if this task is above your pay grade leave it to an expert. Warning warning this soul is slipping slowing forgetting whom she was her importance reason she was sent from above. Do not I repeat Do not aid her in destroying her self rather by words or tying a rope around her throat no bullets to be sold until she is located. Last seen caramel skin blend wavey jet black hair and grey teary eyes. If found locate God Allah or a spiritual being with white light hold her tight reassure her the sun always comes out after night.

#WedNightPoetry: "The Best I Never Had" by Seymour Banks

"The Best I Never Had"
By: Seymour Banks
I never knew
Love like this...
Or us like this...
Or you...
See...
Its been 10 years
Since we met..
Quiet as kept
Im a mess
If i cant have you
Or...
Kiss you..
Or...
Love you past
Conviction
Shorty...
Like diamonds
You glisten
Your smile
My prison of past
Insecurities
In your friendship
I found security...
See in you..
I see purity
But in you
You see
Fear of me...
Confessions to you
Left me curbside
With my heart
In my lap
As those words died..
Who am I
But a guy
Who would die
To be the guy
In your eyes...
When you mad..
I wish I could
Realign
The stars
And time
To leave you glad..
Be the front line
In which you confide
In times
You sad..
God damn
I love you bad...
You're the best
I never had...

#WedNightPoetry: "Found My Way" by Angela "SunToucher" Patterson

"Found My Way"

I cried tears for many years
Some joyful
Yet
Sometimes the bad outweighed the good
There were moments when I went to that house I could not call home after work and on the porch I stood
Forced the key in the lock
While deep in thought
The apple of no eyes
I am the seed of rotten
Remembering the kind of love that had been forgotten
I chalked it up to never learning love
Therefore I blamed myself
Still I raised my hands and seeked answered prayers from above
These things take time
Right?
I opted in for better options in my optimistic ways
Looking for better days
But my optics illusioned me
So blind that my third eye missed it
But who needs eyes to see that no person should suffer a mistreat
Apologized only to repeat
Damn, I got the message dude, you didn't love me
Later realizing I didn't love him either
He saved me from the very same conditions that made me hate him
Prematurely making an immature decision
I ended up with incision
Cut into my heart
Took a piece with no precision
I don't understand what took me so long to walk out
Other than the fear of a more worse route
Other than bill collectors listed on my AT&T bill
Other than next to nothing given on my EBT meal
Other than rarely having twenty dollars to take from the ATM machine
Other than the waiting list at the FWHA and worried about my hygiene
Through hard work and many blessings I can look back cause its over now
Sadly it did not change the fact that I'm colder now
Bolder now
Better in my choices because I'm older now
I found my way

#WedNightPoetry: "Trust Nobody" by Keisha Williams Cranford

*Trust Nobody *
You can't trust nobody
You can't trust friends
You can't even trust family
And it never ends
They say keep your enemies closer
But you can't trust them
You think someone is your best friend
When you think you know them you don't
and if you think they won't do what you think
They won't do what they will
A real nigga going to tell
You Tha truth and A
Real bitch not going to lie to you and
A truth friend will not snitch on you
And a true friend will not stand by you
See only fake , Jealous, wanna be' s
Just like you will do some bullshit To you
You can't trust nobody but yourself
You can't trust friends family or Nobody else
You can't trust no one that's why I only fucks with myself.
