Interview with Jonah Melvon

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing San Francisco Bay area artist Jonah Melvon. You can expect to see Jonah explode on the scene nationwide. He is a socially conscious  lyricist which is a breath of fresh air to today’s  urban music scene.
Q:   First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
I didn't really tap into music til my college years. I was def a late bloomer. I started unlocking my voice at open mics which lead to demo recordings. I denied my passion to do music because my household and my city had set the bar so high.

Q:  What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
Jump in the fire. Everyone has something to offer. That doesn't equate to having an amazing career "the way you might foresee it", but everyone does have a story to tell.

Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?
If it's a natural process of putting together a collection of writings over a period of time, that's less stressful for me. If I'm jumping in the fire from scratch with expectations, that causes way more anxiety.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?
I would say this is one of my gifts. I love being creative, and the initial process of building the skeleton is quite simple. Putting the meat on the bones however, can be more work depending on the intentions behind the song.

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Build your own brand at some point of time. Submitting to other brands can be awesome, however building your own brand keeps you up at night just a little longer. To me it creates a more inspired life.

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car right now?
I been studying Daniel Ceasar and why his song writing is so effective. I also been enjoying the gifted Saba from Chicago.

Q :What are your future goals as a music artist?
I will continue to build my craft, creating sounds that move me and hopefully my audience. In addition
I am always looking for sustainability in doing what I love as a creative, and looking to do the same for others. For me it's more than just doing art, it's the advocacy for artists having equity in their lives.

Q: What was your most memorable performance to date?
I have many of these so it's hard to pin point one performance. It's like choosing your favorite artists, its hard because it changes with time.

Q :How can we follow you on social media ??
Check me out on all platforms under my name @JonahMelvon
