[BLACKTOPIA ARTIST SPOTLIGHT] King Kris | www.ImKingKris.com

King Kris was born in Key West, Florida. He resided in a place called Bahama Village where he was exposed to island life – he was influenced by the Jamaican/Bahamian/Haitian culture. Because drug activity was common, he was forced to grow up very quickly at a very young age.

Kris states that both of his parents were musically inclined. At the age of 10, he was introduced to rap music finding interest in his first KRS1 album which led him to understand the depth of rap music and its political and social meaning at that time.  Of all of the rappers he’s listened to, Kris points to 50Cent as the most influential rapper because of his raw style of music, followed by Tupac and Biggie because of their East coast/West coast flavor and their relatable streetwise content.

In 2019, Kris became serious about making music.  He set out to record his very first video followed by a real endeavor to develop a catalogue of music, which he still has to this day.  In January 2020, he felt confident enough to record his first professional video entitled, ‘Ima Beast, Ima Dog’ (https://youtu.be/-D7CqMYEfgQ), which racked up some 4K views in its first week on YouTube. After seeing himself visually on the screen, he knew without a doubt “this is it…this is what I want to do”.   It was at this point that he was tired of street life as he knew it, and music was a way to “be a cultural influence without being a hustler in the streets physically.  I decided to leave the streets alone, because I saw that I could still rap about my experiences -  I was believable because my experiences were authentic.”

In 2020, a week after his video ‘Divin’ In The Money’ (https://youtu.be/uCNnkggx_6k) dropped, his performance momentum began to pick up. He had 2 shows scheduled in Ohio and was booked to perform 3 shows out of town, and various small labels were turning their attention to him, wanting to meet with him.  All of this forward momentum was unexpectedly halted due to the now infamous Covid outbreak that shut the world down, canceling all of Kris’ performance plans.  But instead of stopping the progression, Kris’ video began drawing a lot of attention. After it was posted to social media platforms, he was sought by various sponsors and was asked to be a brand ambassador for a particular well-known grill-making company.  So, while many artists were stagnated by the lengthy Covid shutdown, King Kris creatively sought ways to earn income to support his craft. He found the business aspect of the industry was the niche that would provide a steady source of income to keep his vision moving forward. He credits his success to maintaining good business relationships, staying focused, and looking for/receiving beneficial opportunities in marketing, branding, and promotions.  King Kris is a highly intelligent, successful, self-made businessman.  He’s observant enough to deduct that “we, the artists, are the ones who set the trends. We’re the ones the audience will emulate. We’re the ones who tells them who to go to. Any smart marketer will see the advantage of working with a sought-after artist, or a popular up and coming one.”

His latest release, ‘Call Me King’ (https://youtu.be/JRSjVRgQrgE) gives the audience a glimpse into the life King Kris. It’s the most personal work he has produced to date. The video is VEVO approved and is approaching 46K views in just 3 weeks.  He brings an energy that is as hard to overlook as his commanding 6’5” stature, good looks, and determination – all making a recipe for success. He is believable when he says, “I was made for this!”

When asked of his immediate future goals, he states he will eventually be a multiplatinum recording artist with a grammy;  he’d also like to pursue serious acting. He is currently CEO of his own company and label, and he predicts progressive future growth.  He is ambitious and determined stating, “if you shoot for the stars, you’ll at least land on the moon.”

[Interview] Rapper Young Dom AKA DomTMO | www.DomTMO.com

Long Island, New York stationed rap recording artist Young Dom AKA DomTMO best known for garnering a lot of buzz and attention after opening up for rap star Lloyd Banks sits down with the content creators of Blacktopia for an in depth, insightful interview about his music career, future plans and more.  Read all about what the bright young artist has to say in the interview below.

Blacktopia:  Hello, DomTMO.  How would you sum up who you are as an artist in just one sentence?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  I am a firm believer that nobody can tell you what you can and can’t not be!

Blacktopia:  How would you describe your style as an artist?  What can people expect when they hear you?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  My style is authentic.  I don’t try to be nobody but myself honestly.  You can expect someone who is dedicated to what he is doing and also inspiring the next to become better than.  Wherever I decide to finish my marathon.

Blacktopia:  What are some of the subjects that you rap about?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  My life!  The things I see or have seen.  My close circle of peers that are not artists, but can inspire me to create content about their struggles or anything in life that I may not have gone thru.  It all helps

Blacktopia:  Who have you worked with?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  Man, kR Da Problem, Marcus Taylor, JuTheKing , Gp45, Kino, Scott King, Buddy Lofton, Rose, TheRealMaine, Relly & more coming up this year!

Blacktopia:  We see that you've opened up for Lloyd Banks, what was the experience like opening up for him at The Sony Music Hall's fifteen-year anniversary event?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  Honestly, it was the first time I opened up for a packed out venue like that!  Not only once but twice in the same spot with Lloyd banks!  I thank him for that … the experience was crazy the first time I did it.  It was 3 of us then I lost a brother to street violence later that year and he wasn’t there the second time but he knows it’s only up from here for me.  So I’m forever grateful for that experience.

Blacktopia:  What other milestones have you had in your music career so far?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  Roc Nation meeting, Def Jam meeting, met Nipsey Hussle before he passed.  Seeing Jay Z in passing through the Roc Nation building, Long Island Nets (d league) playing my song in Nassau Coliseum man felt great.  It just let’s me know I’m that close to where I want to be.

Blacktopia:  As an artist, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Young Dom AKA Dom TMO:  Financially stable, really impactful, inspiration to the next , coming out of Long Island you heard of EPMD, you heard bout Rakim but since the 90s nobody besides Reek Da Villian really put the island on the map so I’m here to embark that right there!

Blacktopia:  If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  Stop living in doubt.  Everyday you wake up and have air in your chest, chase that goal or dream of what you want to be.  Don’t get discouraged because it’s happening faster for the next person.  Focus on yourself, it's all about timing!

Blacktopia:  What's next for DomTMO?  What do you have lined up for the rest of 2022?

Young Dom AKA DomTMO:  I got a script. I'm reading time to get into these short films, more singles , tryna make a Roc Nation brunch, get on Bdot Top 10 list and make my son proud to be my son.  I can’t ask for much, respect from the peers and I’m solid.

Learn all about Young Dom AKA DomTMO

You know the saying, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!  The New York stationed hip hop recording artist known as DomTMO AKA Young Dom could use that phrase as his official tagline / slogan as he's walked away from disheartening as well as tragic experiences only to come out on the other end triumphant and much stronger than before.  One of the two career altering occurrences that pushed the young vocalist to strive for greatness happened after joining the rap group Team Money, a band of local lyricists that Dom ran with during his high school years.  In the group Young Dom was referred to as "the weakest link" by tastemakers and critics alike after the release of their debut mixtape.  Devastated by the response, Young Dom processed the information, took it in stride and used it as fuel for his internal fire to become a much better artist / performer!
The other life changing event that sparked a new found motivation in the emcee was surviving a critical motorcycle incident that left him hospitalized for 6 months.  During his road to recovery, Dom struggled with thoughts of continuing his music career, but after his body healed and his health improved, Dom realized that he's definitely here for a reason and to create more excellent music for his growing fanbase.
Throughout the years Dom released a well-received mixtape series titled Live Young Die Rich, which garnered thousands of listens worldwide virtually and through several viable internet platforms.  The 3rd installment in the series led to sparking the attention of veteran New York rapper and 50 Cent associate Lloyd Banks.  Lloyd Banks' interest in the artist brought upon the opportunity to open up Banks during his performance at The Sony Music Hall in NY for their fifteen year anniversary.  Young Dom has put out back to back "bangers" during the Covid19 pandemic from the singles "Zone" featuring GP45 out of Texas and "Top Of the Food Chain" featuring JuTheKing!
What doesn't kill you, certainly makes you stronger, and surviving is one of the reasons why DomTMO has some of the "strongest" music out right now!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: KULA VONCILLE

Learn to love yourself and find your flow!  Life coach and professional therapist Adrienne Charleston can certainly help you on your journey for self love, self development and improvement and help you find your flow!  Visit Adrienne Charleston's official website at http://www.Adrienne-Charleston.com and book your session today!

You remember legendary emcees such as Roxanne Shante, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, the late Ms. Melodie, Monie Love, The Lady of Rage, Jean Grae, Bahamadia, Da Brat, Remy Ma, Rah Digga, and Lauryn Hill?  What do all these talented lyricists have in common?  Not only are the individuals on this list exceptionally gifted hip hop recording artists, but they are also strong, intelligent, powerful and influential women that were also inspirational to a nation of young girls aspiring to follow in their professional foot steps.  In 2019 and beyond we have Kula Voncille, the daughter that was birthed from the mother of golden era hip hop.  While the game is now saturated with female recording artists that would rather sacrifice substance in favor of shock value. Nowadays we have more Barbees, Strippers and IG models picking up the mic to represent for the ladies instead of strong willed, powerful women with integrity giving hope and motivation to the next generation of girls, but with the rise of Kula Voncille, she has enough stage presence, lyrical skills, flair and substance to bring the art of "femceeing" back to it's glory days.
Kula Voncille was born and raised in the heart of Richmond, VA and is the living embodiment of the state mantra "VA is for Lovers and Hustlers" (because Kula is most certainly both of course).  Kula Voncille AKA Kueen Kong has always been a student of hip hop, but graduated from the school of hard knocking hip hop emcees in 2014 the year she started her music career.  In that year Kula won the Soul Logistic Radio Gong Show Contest and opened for the legendary Slick Rick.
Kula's musical influences include but certainly not limited to Eminem, Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, T.I. and Redman just to name a few.  There is no one word that can encompass everything Kula Von is as an emcee.  Kula is so versatile as a performer that it's hard to put her in a box and hard for the artist to even describe herself, when others ask her to define her style she kicks a verse a capella to show them rather than tell them!

Kula Voncille has performed at various prestigious venues in many cities in Virginia such as Ma Michele Cafe and Catering, Maple Bourbon,
The Camel, The Top, VCUs International Contemporary Arts Building,
The Well Art Gallery, The Beauty and Barber Fashion Show.  Kula Voncille has also performed at Fashion Shows in Atlanta, as well as industry parties and open mixes in New York and North Carolina.

In the seven years since its founding, A Better Chance, A Better Community(ABC2) has played a major role in the positive transformation of the Roanoke Valley from an area with too many unproductive, unsupervised kids with too much time to get into trouble to one providing young people with a valuable structured program which focuses on community development, youth engagement and fun.

ABC2’s signature program, The World Changers, is for young people ages 10 - 24 of various academic levels, demographics, and living in Halifax, Warren, Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson and Northampton Counties. Areas which suffers from health disparities and disproportionate systems of care & resources.
