#WedNightPoetry: "Lonely Child" (by Darrell Herbert)

"Lonely Child"

When I'm with her, you and me babe, you already know
When I'm with her, a subtle voice asked me if I want to let go
Girl, I'm lonely child
Girl, we're not lonely here, we need a room
When I'm with her, that subtle voice changed into such a familiar soul

Darrell, I know you love her and you waited on her since you were eighteen years old
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want a relationship to grow

When I'm with her, you and me babe, you already know
I want something that can't be done in this tiny space, that's when you toss to sleep on your pillows
Girl, I'm lonely child
Girl, we're not lonely here, it's almost noon
When I'm with her, that subtle voice changed into such an unfamiliar tone

Darrell, I know you love her and you waited on her since you were eighteen years old
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want a relationship to grow
Darrell, I know you love her and you always thought of her as beautiful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want to be faithful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want life to be simple

When I'm with her, you and me babe, her hand is what I want to hold
When I was eighteen I dated this one girl who I thought of as absolutely impeccable
Girl, I'm lonely child
Girl, we're not lonely here, sweep expectations off using your broom
When I'm with her, that subtle voice made me call her on my cell phone

Darrell, I know you love her and you waited on her since you were eighteen years old
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want a relationship to grow
Darrell, I know you love her and you always thought of her as beautiful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want to be faithful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want life to be simple

When I'm with her, you and me babe, no echoes of a powerful moan
When she was nineteen her grades were so great that she actually graduated on the honor role
Girl, I'm lonely child
Girl, we're not lonely here, now all we need here is a bride and a groom
When I'm with her, that subtle voice flowed into her river of gold

Darrell, I know you love her and you waited on her since you were eighteen years old
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want a relationship to grow
Darrell, I know you love her and you always thought of her as beautiful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want to be faithful
Darrell, I know you love her and you just want life to be simple

I'm never hiding the girl that I love, I just hope she knows that I truly love her and care
I'm never hiding the girl that I love, she's so sophisticated and fair
I'm never hiding the girl that I love, her brown eyes are as gorgeous as her angelic hair
I'm never hiding the girl that I love, it's us against the other pair
I'm never hiding the girl that I love, that's when we stop and stare
